Our 5 Favourite Cosy Pubs within Walking Distance
Edinburgh is synonymous with warm, cosy pubs. In our wee nook of the West End, we are lucky enough to have some incredible places to take refuge from the worst of Edinburgh’s weather and cosy up with a pint and a nourishing plate of food. We have picked our five favourites which are all no more than 10 minutes walk from the door of our hotel in Haymarket.
Mad Hatter - Torphichen Place
Casual laid back family-operated bar serving great cocktails and draught beer. Occasional live music.
Teuchters - William Street
Teachters meaning highlander; uncouth; countryfied person. Classic pub-style venue with real fire, hand-pulled ale, extensive whiskey list and serving relaxed food-think mugs of Cullen skink or Haggis neeps and tatties. Also features a wide range of Scottish bottled or draught beer.
Ryrie's Bar - Haymarket
Traditional Scottish watering hole. Ryrie's is one of Edinburgh's oldest public houses. 'A' listed historic building with local and international beers on tap, cask ales, live music and pub food.
The Voyage of Buck - William Street
A beautifully decorated heritage gastro pub with a history. Named after William Buck Clarence who lived in this home 1900-1935. Companion to Prince Albert Victor, infamous grandson to Queen Victoria. Buck fled London with the Prince in 1889. The unique cocktail list explores flavours found in five cities encountered on The Voyage of Buck.
Monty's - 185 Morrison St
With a snug area up in the rafters, candlelight, craft beer and over 60 Scottish malt whiskies this small, unimposing old-fashioned pub is a local favourite serving meat and cheese charcuterie boards and a tiny beer garden for sunny days, compact Monty's has everything.
